Update 8/2/08

Kagonesti: Dragonlance lost histories by Douglas Niles.  Paperback.  Got munched in my book box.  Book is readable but cover is bent and torn.

=====

  • A Fit of Tempera: A Bed and Breakfast Mystery by Mary Daheim.  Paperback.  Pages are intact but pages have separated partly from the cover.

  • A Singular Hostage: A magnificent novel of the Victorian India by Thalassa Ali.  It has some sort of a liquid stain on the outer edge of the page.  Not a big stain, about 2 inches.  Only a small portion goes to the bottom of the pages.
  • Dances with Wolves by Michael Blake; Ballantine Books : 1988 (spine wear, pages have separated in one place)
  • Mutiny on the Bounty by Charles Nordhoff and James Normal Hall; Little Brown : 1969 (has a crease in the cover, some wear, small tear in spine. Binding is in good shape)
  • Five Minute Mysteries by Ken Weber (has musty smell; book is in excellent condition otherwise)
  • Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon by John H. Watson (has black shelf wear spot on the bottom near the spine. Like new condition otherwise)
  • The Wedding by Dorothy West.  Paperback in great condition.  Previous owner underlined passages.

Most of the books I have posted are in great shape. I tend to be pretty gentle on the books I've read. This is a non-smoking household, one pet household (my dog)

It Came From Berkeley by Dave Wienstein

This was one of the most engaging and entertaining history books I've read since Kenneth C. Davis' Don't Know Much About American History!  This book is about Berkeley, California, the wild and wacky city.  It starts from it's earliest inhabitants in the mid 1800s to 2006.

Having lived in this region all my life, I knew some of the stories.  But, many of the people and events were knew to me.  For instance, I did not know that Christian ministers and Republican Moderates brought the looking forward eccentric spirit to Berkeley first way back in the early 1900s.  Those leanings and beliefs aren't very different from the "radical" progressives which run Berkeley today.  For whatever reason, Berkeley has drawn independent thinkers right from the start and the book gives a taste of why it has been such a magnet.

It's a fascinating look at a city with alot of tidbits on a variety of topics.  I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the city and it's beginnings.
